Alcohol impairs cognitive and motor function and as a result it is involved in a high percent of accidents. In the USA every year, there is huge number of deaths caused by alcohol related traffic accidents. This problem has not been successfully addressed and a major change in policy will be required to reduce the number of alcohol related traffic deaths. The medical profession can play a major role in reducing injury and death from alcohol related accidents by educating the public that this is a medical public health problem that requires new legislation and the application of preventive public health measures.
