Withdrawal symptoms such as tremors, anxiety and insomnia can begin within hours of stopping or markedly reducing alcohol intake (some patients can enter into withdrawal even with significant alcohol blood levels if they have consumed large amounts of alcohol with higher blood levels). Seizures usually occur within 48 hours while DT’s usually begin after 48 hours. Tremors, anxiety and insomnia can last up to a week and there can protracted symptoms for even months including tremor, sleep disruption, anxiety, depression and decreased energy.
