  • Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a long-standing self-help organization for people who want to stop drinking or using other drugs. AA uses a 12-step program based on a spiritual connection to a higher power (such as God) to help people overcome their addictions. The program's success has been validated by scientific study, it has helped many people.Meetings are available in most communities at various times. Meetings can be "open" (for the person and his or her family) or "closed" (for the person only). Special groups for women, teens, and gays are available in some areas.     Al-Anon is a long-standing self-help organization for family members and friends of people who have alcohol and drug use problems. Al-Anon is based on the steps and principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).The message of Al-Anon for family members is that:

    • You are valuable and need to take care of yourself.
    • You are not responsible for the person who is using alcohol or drugs.
    • You shouldn't make threats that you don't intend to keep.

    Alateen is part of Al-Anon, which helps families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members.Our program of recovery is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based upon the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and the Twelve Concepts of Service.The only requirement of membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.See alateen on the www.
