Lauren is a 14-year hold high school freshman who lives with her mom (an artist), dad (an insurance salesman), and identical twin sister Jill in a medium-sized city. She considers herself to have good relationships with her friends and family members. She does not participate in extracurricular activities or sports at school, and although she attends school regularly she does not particularly enjoy it.
One night when her parents are out of town, Lauren decides to host a party for a group of friends. She accesses her parents’ liquor cabinet. Later when asked why she wanted alcohol, she wasn't sure if it was because she was "bored and it was there" or if wanted to be perceived as "cool and grown-up" by her friends.
